Suggested weekend reading
(especially if one of your 2016 goals is to have more meaning in your career):
Do More Great Work by Michael Bungay Stanier is like a workbook that is full of exercises ("maps") to help you get more out of what you do everyday. Stainer works with organizations towards enhancing their good work to "Great Work" through his company Box of Crayons. Really, this book's material would be great for a weekend getaway (or blizzard shut-in situation) to discuss with friends that are also trying to determine which work within their careers is the most fulfilling or are perhaps are considering a different career path. The book also includes insights from other well-known business writers such as Seth Godin. If you're wanting to rethink what you are doing and why, this book is a great place to start.
Execution, The Discipline of Getting Things Done by Larry Bossidy and Ram Charan is more for the person who wants to stand out more within an organization in 2016. This isn't a new business book (in fact it's been revised and updated a
couple of times), but the content is really worthy of your time if you are in a management position or especially if you aspire to become a leader within
your company. The chapters include discussion points about leadership
behaviors, making a change in an organization's culture, and conducting
strategy reviews. It's a detailed look at what is expected of leaders today.
