Suggested weekend activity:
There is a LOT to process right now - so many sad recent events and so many voices telling us different viewpoints. Writing is such a healthy way to think through thoughts and feelings. It's good to listen to what our gut is saying and the intention of actually making sense of all of these thoughts enough to form a phrase, sentence, paragraph, or even making a simple list can be extremely therapeutic. The act of writing takes a little time, solitude and effort. Sometimes just writing out the thoughts as we have them feels pretty easy, but reading those thoughts back to oneself might be hard. Regardless, simply elevating a feeling or thought to the written word is a cathartic exercise. It's a great time to start the habit of keeping a journal. It's not one more thing to do - it's much more like having a simple, private space for our thoughts.
Beyond discovering our thoughts, journaling is an interesting study of style. While some prefer to type in Evernote or OneNote, others insist on handwriting in a notebook. That notebook choice is a fascinating look into what type of design we prefer to use: classic Moleskine, bright favorite color from Poppin, or intricate and iridescent floral covers of Paperblanks (shown above). The feel of the paper in these notebooks and the writing instrument we use also make a difference in the experience. That choice of notebook is a testimony to our aesthetic, which actually makes this pretty fun. So, let's take care of ourselves this weekend by taking a moment to pause, reflect, discover, search deeply (or lightly), vent frustrations, make declarations, plan, list, and give thanks.
